The Power of Women’s Friendships: Boost Your Mental Health & Longevity

“I’m so proud of you, I love you, and I think you’re amazing.”

Imagine your phone rings, and on the other end, it’s your friend saying those words—no reason, no occasion, just her being her. What would you do?

Me? I’d instantly get wrapped up in this warm bubble of ooey-gooey goodness and morph into full-on “Whoa… I can do anything!” mode.

This week, as I reflect on the relationships in my life, I realize this is what every woman truly needs: other women who think you’re incredible. No strings, no drama—just unwavering love, support, and “I’ve got your back no matter what.”

Don’t get me wrong, I adore the men in my life. My husband, my sons, and my male friends are amazing. But let’s be real: there’s something about the deep, soul-nourishing relationships we have with our sisters that hits differently.

Most of my emotional and mental strength comes from the bonds I share with the strong women in my life. Over time, we mirror our friends—their thoughts, beliefs, and actions. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell where they end, and I begin.

They say we’re the average of the five people we spend the most time with. So, who are we surrounding ourselves with? I’d say choose wisely. I think I nailed it.

In our friendships, we validate each other. We share marriage advice, laugh until we cry, swap beauty tips, and share some of our deepest secrets. We call each other out, get reminded that the toaster has to be plugged in to work, and sheer silliness—creating memories that last a lifetime.

The bonds I’ve built with my female friends? Those are irreplaceable.

And here’s the thing: when we have a strong circle of close friends, especially other women, it’s not just good for our hearts—it’s essential for our brains, mental health, and longevity. Women with close friendships experience reduced stress and greater emotional resilience. These connections increase the release of feel-good chemicals in our brains, like oxytocin, which can boost our mood and even lower blood pressure.

Studies show that women who maintain strong social connections live longer, healthier lives because they have the support to navigate challenges, share joys, and lift each other up.

In our friendships, we don’t just share laughs and secrets; we help each other build mental and emotional strength. Having a supportive group of friends helps buffer against anxiety and depression, provides clarity during tough times, and encourages us to be the best versions of ourselves. It’s through these relationships that we find the courage to step into our power, to push past self-doubt, and to hold space for one another when life feels overwhelming.

So here’s my PSA for today: Be that woman. Lift up your friends. Cheer on the woman staring back at you in the mirror. Let’s create a world where we remind each other, every chance we get:

“Hey, you’re amazing, and you’re not alone—I’ve got you.”❤️

Call that sister in your life who does that for you. Love on her. Let’s keep the waves of love flowing. Because these friendships aren’t just about good times—they’re the foundation of our well-being, strength, and longevity. Let’s cherish them, nurture them, and create a world where we all thrive together.

Some people stick to one hat forever, but me? I have been the hat-switching queen, dancing through a whirlwind of exhilarating transitions.

Picture this: a fresh-faced student in the U.S. embarking on a new journey after running a successful clothing business. Imagine going from serving coffee as a barista to handling contracts worth thousands of dollars. Envision inspiring my twins to clean their room to guiding corporate executives to clear their minds of stress, all while maneuvering life’s pivots like a seasoned salsa dancer.

My journey? A fun and epic adventure!

What keeps my spirit ignited is my love for coloring outside the lines and my unstoppable “I got this” attitude. I feel like I have lived many lifetimes in this one.
Sometimes I feel like I’ve done it all thriving through all the incredible experiences.

After meeting my spiritual guide, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, life finally began to make sense. Now, with over 22 years of teaching meditation and leadership, I know I have stepped into what I am meant to do.

Blessed with the uncanny ability to align with any situation, I find purpose in helping others discover meaning and joy.

Each of us has a song that makes us leap out of bed and dance through life. Together, let’s find it and seize the day.

From the laughter-filled kitchen to the demanding corporate world, my life has been a mosaic of roles that deepened my understanding of the human experience.

As a daughter, I learned resilience from watching my mother balance her dreams with family. As a wife, I discovered that partnership is like a dance, sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow, but it’s always a shared victory. Motherhood brought a whirlwind of emotions, unconditional love, patience, and the relentless pursuit of balance. Being a daughter-in-law taught me empathy, bridging generations and traditions with respect and unity. As a meditation and leadership instructor for over two decades with college students, I witnessed their uncertain steps turn into confident strides, guiding them as they discovered their footing.

In my professional and personal life, I found my voice, advocating for myself and others who needed support. These experiences weren’t just moments; they were transformative lessons that allow me to connect deeply with others.

I understand the juggling act because I’ve lived it.

Together, we’ll tap into your inner strength, embrace your roles, and create a path that truly reflects you. Let’s walk this road together, turning every stone into a stepping stone towards the life you envision.
